Modern Custom Lanyards are made out of
a multitude of colorful materials. Various printing techniques
such as silk screening, woven-in and dye sublimation offer
rich and vibrant reproductions of art and design.
The most common materials used for custom lanyards
are nylon, polyester and cotton. Other less commonly used
materials for custom lanyards include vinyl, neoprene and
rubber. New custom lanyard products are made of eco friendly
material such as bamboo fiber, PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
which has proven to be more easily biodegradable through hydrolysis
(exposure to water). Another biodegradable custom lanyard
material is a fabric is made from PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) which
is derived from Corn Starch. Available as a flat strap similar
to nylon lanyards.
Custom Lanyards generally fall into four main types with
many variations within these groups.
- Woven-in material where the printing or design is woven
into the material using different colors of thread. This
has proven to be a very durable product.
- Tube material where the custom lanyard is woven into a
tube and the design or text is printed on a flattened area
of the tube.
- Flat woven material where a design or text is silk screened,
laser printed, offset printed, heat transferred or any numbers
of different technologies are used to create the design,
text or logo on the materials flat area.
- Polyester is among the least expensive custom imprinted
lanyards flat woven material available in 3/8"
(shoelace) and 5/8" (budget). Hot stamping and
dye sublimation are the methods used for printing
this material.
- Nylon is the most durable of all the flat lanyard
materials. It's typically screen printed and is available
in a wide variety of lanyard configurations including
quick-release and water bottle holder.
- Cotton is both durable and the most comfortable
material to wear around the neck for extended periods
of time. Custom printed cotton lanyards are screen
printed on one or both sides.

- A cord material which can come with or without a design
or text component. Cord custom lanyards are the material
of choice for basic id card lanyards. They are also typically
used for carrying other small objects such as a whistle,
pen, cell phone, badge reel etc. Cord lanyards can outfitted
with a breakaway connector for safety concerns as well as
a slide size adjustor for adjusting the length. Cord lanyards
are 1/8" or 3/16" wide and made from cotton, nylon
or polyester.
Custom Lanyard sizes vary generally from 1/8 inch wide to
1 inch wide. Manufacture is normally using the metric measurement
system so typically size 10mm X 90cm long, 15mm X 90cm long,
20mm X 90cm long to 25mm X 90cm long. The length is completely
up to the customer though as is all other aspects of the custom
lanyard manufacture.
