Leather lanyards are becoming increasingly popular as more
and more manufactures develop lanyard products using leather.
Leather lanyards are durable, beautiful and practical plus
come in a multitude of colors and weaves. Generally these
lanyards are used in outdoor activities such as hunting, dog
handling, fishing, and hiking etc.
However not all leather lanyards are alike. The top of the
line are custom woven leather lanyards that feature hand-braided
leather lace over nylon cores. These leather lanyards are
made specifically to your requirements and are costly and
take time to make; delivery times can be months away based
on the artisan’s workload. The next option is mass produced
leather woven lanyards made to a specific size and use such
as dog leashes. At the bottom is the leather like materials
that simulate a leather lanyard. There are many varieties
in-between these.
Uses for leather lanyards are as varied as they are for regular
lanyards. They can be used as whistle lanyards that dog whistles
or duck calls are attached. Dog leash and lead leather lanyards
are popular uses. Leather fishing lanyards are great for attaching
a multitude of tools to. It can be as diverse as custom leather
lanyards designed to carry turkeys back from the field after
hunting them. These lanyards are called Turkey Handles.
Many manufactures make their leather lanyards from Kangaroo
leather, an excellent material for this use. When cured correctly
kangaroo leather is supple but sturdy; more than strong enough
for any general lanyard use. Cow leather is another manufacture
material for leather lanyards that will work. All finely made
leather products must be maintained. Too much sun, salt from
sweating, heat even indirectly will dry the leather out which
means it loses its’ natural oils. Drying out will occur
slowly over time even without direct heat and sunlight. When
this happens rub in a light coat of leather dressing or neutral
leather cream into the lanyard.
If you choose the correct leather lanyard for the desired
activity and then look after it, the leather lanyard will
last a very long time, probably long enough to hand it down
to your children or their children.
